We are a dedicated group of volunteer dog handlers and our incredible canine companions, united by one simple goal, to spread love, joy, and comfort wherever it is needed most. Each of our volunteers goes through a thorough process of training and evaluation to ensure they are prepared to provide safe, compassionate, and meaningful therapy visits.
Dogs can support both mental and physical health, including cardiovascular health, pain management, immune system functioning, and social interaction. They can also encourage learning, empathy, positive behavior, and stronger interpersonal connections.
Spending time with dogs can help lower heart rate and blood pressure while reducing feelings of fear, anxiety, and aggression. Their companionship and calming presence can create a more positive and supportive environment.
Therapy Dogs of Long Island's mission is to use the special connection that exists between dogs and humans as a therapeutic modality. A treatment for both physical and mental conditions in those who would love the company of a dog. To alleviate some pain and suffering to both children and adults by bringing joy, happiness and a feeling of unconditional love and healing.
